Working with a partner, help spread the word of the goals of PSN and convincing residents in an area filled with refugees and immigrants that it is safe to come forward to law enforcement when they witness violence. This will be achieved by placing a door hanger on designated residences in PSN area. Volunteers would be expected to place door hangers on residences for approximately 2.5 hours. A map would be provided and officers will be present to ensure safety. A breakfast rally will precede the event and a free lunch for volunteers will follow the event. Please register to volunteer. |

Danielle Alexis Matthews joined the Dallas office in September 2000. As senior counsel, Danielle focuses her practice on labor and employment matters. She has actively represented clients in multiple class and collective action matters involving wage and hour and related issues under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and similar state statutes and laws. Danielle regularly represents clients in a variety of employment matters involving Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Texas Commission on Human Rights Act (TCHRA), the Texas Workers' Compensation Act (TWCA), and similar statutes and regulations, as well as in employment related breach of contract cases, and cases involving the defense of Company commission and benefit policies. Danielle has also dealt regularly with clients on affirmative action issues, desk audits, and in comprehensive/on-site audits with the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). On a daily basis, Danielle regularly communicates and interfaces with key management personnel and human resources representatives to provide insight and legal advice to those individuals on a range of personnel issues. Understanding the interplay between employment issues and peer review policies and procedures affecting the Firm's health care clients, Danielle also devotes a portion of her practice to advising, counselling, and representing healthcare management in nursing and physician peer review proceedings. Danielle prides herself on developing long-term and personal relationships with her clients, which she believes enhances her ability to anticipate, understand, and meet their needs and expectations. |

“I Like Me!” was written by Topeka Rotarian Vern Wheeler in an effort to develop self-concept and a joy of reading in kindergartners. He had read to young students who were disinterested in the reading materials because they couldn't relate to the people in the stories, so he wrote a book that featured the student as the main character.
The story of each hard-cover, full color "I Like Me!” book contains multiple mentions of the name of the kindergartner plus their two best friends, teacher, school and city.
In studies conducted over a three year period by Dr. Don DeMoulin, University of Tennessee-Martin, the use of "I Like Me!” improved comprehension and recall in kindergartners by an average of 46.8% over children using non-personalized readers. The books also have a positive impact on students’ self-concept. As Susan Goren, Executive Director of the National Association of School Psychologists, says, the book is read over and over by students because they themselves are the subject of the material.
In Dallas, The Rotary Club of Dallas supplies over 1,000 of these books to Dallas Independent School District kindergartens and members take a day each April to visit several participating schools to deliver the books and read to the children. The moment when the child realizes the book is about them is a true gift to experience.

State Rep. Eric Johnson (D) and Dallas City Councilman Scott Griggs are running in a June 8 nonpartisan runoff election for mayor of Dallas, Texas. This is an open-seat race; incumbent Mike Rawlings (D), in office since 2011, was prevented by term limits from seeking re-election. Both candidates discuss their records in elected office as evidence of their fitness to serve as mayor. Johnson says he has a record of bringing people together across party and rural/urban divides in the state House, where he's served since 2010, and that he is the candidate to mend divisiveness on the Dallas City Council. He says he has worked to increase affordable housing and for full-day pre-K during his time as a state legislator. Griggs says his record on the city council, where he first began serving in 2011, attests to his ability to accomplish things on the council. He lists among his accomplishments his role in passing salary increases for police officers and economic growth in the North Oak Cliff neighborhood he represents. Economic development has emerged as a policy area of difference between the candidates. Griggs said, "For far too long in Dallas, we’ve focused too long on the postcard, building the fancy bridges, building the convention center hotel, a golf course, a horse park. We need to get back to the basics." Johnson said of development, "I don’t think it’s as simple as saying everything that’s not a pothole is a vanity project or everything that’s not fixing a street is a boondoggle. We need to have a certain amount of big dreams and big ideas but we also need to make sure the city works for its residents." Griggs has been endorsed by several unions, including the Dallas Fire Fighters Association, as well as environmental and LGBT groups. Johnson's endorsers include NAACP President Arthur Fleming and a number of local business leaders, including Republicans, who signed a letter in February asking people to donate to his campaign. For coverage of the May 4 general election, click here. Dallas is the ninth-largest city in the U.S. with a population of 1.3 million. Johnson represents District 100 in the state House, which covers portions of Dallas and Mesquite and had about 161,000 residents as of the 2010 census. Griggs represents District 1 on the city council, which had around 84,000 residents as of 2011. Dallas uses a council-manager system. In this form of municipal government, the mayor serves on the city council—the city's primary legislative body. The council and mayor appoint a chief executive called a city manager to oversee day-to-day municipal operations and implement the council's policy and legislative initiatives. The mayor of Dallas appoints city council committee members and chairs, determines what policy-related agenda items will be considered by the council, and makes policy and budget recommendations. The mayor does not have veto power. |

Title: Rangers Globe Life Field - The new home of the Texas Rangers, Globe Life Field, opens next season! The new 1.7 million square foot ballpark, which will be located on 13 acres just south of the current Globe Life Park in Arlington, will include a retractable roof for climate control and shelter for fans during the hot summer months. Seating capacity is approximately 40,300 for Globe Life Field, which will open in March 2020. The official groundbreaking for Globe Life Field took place on September 28, 2017 with construction beginning the following week. HKS is the design architect for the project and Manhattan Construction Company is the Construction Manager. Speaker:Matt Hicks | Texas Rangers Radio Announcer Bio: Matt Hicks is in his seventh full season in the Texas Rangers radio booth after joining the broadcasts in June 2012. Hicks came to the Rangers from the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Houston Astros Texas League affiliate, where he had served as Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations since 2005. In that role, he was the primary play-by-play voice on all radio broadcasts and called Hooks television games on Fox Sports Southwest’s Astros Minor League Game of the Week from 2007-09. Hicks has 30 years of professional baseball play-by-play experience, making stops with Frederick of the Carolina League from 1989-94 and El Paso of the Texas League from 1995-2004 before becoming an inaugural employee at Corpus Christi. He is a former winner of the Radio Broadcaster of the Year Award in El Paso and in 2016 was inducted into the El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame. In addition, Hicks has extensive experience broadcasting college basketball with Mount St. Mary’s College (Emmitsburg, MD), James Madison University (Harrisonburg, VA), the University of Texas-El Paso, New Mexico State University, and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He was also the first play-by-play voice of the El Paso Buzzards of the Western Professional Hockey League. During his time in Corpus Christi, Hicks also broadcast high school football on the Texas Sports Radio Network’s CCISD Game of the Week. Hicks is a graduate of the University of Maryland in College Park, where he called baseball, football, basketball, and lacrosse on WMUC Radio. The native of Washington, D.C. also was an extra in the movie Major League II, appearing in scenes featuring Bob Uecker, A.K.A. Harry Doyle. Hicks and his wife, Estelle have a son Nathaniel and reside in Keller. Matt also has a daughter, Amy, who lives in West Virginia.

DR. RICHARD C. BENSONDr. Richard C. Benson is the fifth president of The University of Texas at Dallas, a young university of very high research activity (Carnegie R1) that is growing rapidly in size and stature. Between 2006 and 2016, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education, UT Dallas was the nation’s fourth-fastest growing public university. Benson earned a bachelor of science and engineering degree in aerospace and mechanical science from Princeton University in 1973, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Virginia in 1974, and a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1977. Prior to beginning his university career, he worked for the Xerox Corporation as a technical specialist and project manager from 1977 to 1980. He joined the University of Rochester in 1980 as an assistant professor of mechanical engineering and was named the top teacher in the College of Engineering and Applied Science in 1981. He progressed to associate professor in 1983 and full professor in 1989. He served as associate dean for graduate studies in the College of Engineering and Applied Science from 1989 to 1992 and as chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering from 1992 to 1995. Benson’s research at the University of Rochester was primarily focused on the mechanics of highly flexible structures. With sponsorship from the Eastman Kodak Company, Hewlett-Packard, Bausch & Lomb, Xerox and others, he and his advisees modeled magnetic disks and tapes, paper sheets, soft contact lenses, photographic film and other easily deformed structures. At Penn State University, Benson served as head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering from 1995 to 1998 and head of the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering from 1998 to 2005. He co-taught, with a partner from the Women in Engineering Program, first-year seminars on toy making and dancing robots. As dean of Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering, Benson oversaw record growth from 2005 to 2016. The number of engineering applicants nearly doubled during his tenure. Also, the College of Engineering climbed to a top-10 ranking in the National Science Foundation’s report on engineering schools’ research expenditures. Benson’s teaching interests are in the fields of structural mechanics, design and applied mathematics. At the graduate level he has taught courses in structural mechanics, structural stability, plates and shells, elasticity and continuum mechanics. At the undergraduate level he has taught courses in advanced mechanical design, statics, mechanical systems, kinematics, complex variables and boundary value problems. Benson has received three significant honors from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). In 1984 he received the ASME Henry Hess Award, which honors a research publication by a young author. In 1998 he was made a Fellow of the ASME. In 2009 he was elected to a three-year term on the ASME Board of Governors (2010-13). He also has held editorial positions with the ASME Journal of Applied Mechanics, ASME Press and Applied Mechanics Reviews. |

FC Dallas President Dan Hunt Dan Hunt has served as the President of FC Dallas since 2014. He also serves as a member of MLS’ Board of Governors and the league’s Business Ventures Committee. Hunt spent years working on the design and construction of Toyota Stadium and Toyota Soccer Center with his late father and American sports icon, Lamar Hunt. Since the venue’s opening in 2005, Hunt has used the venue to help establish FC Dallas as the leader in youth development in North America. Toyota Soccer Complex, a 145-acre facility complete with 17 professional-grade soccer fields, has quickly become one the most rewarding stadium designs in professional sports. Rated as one of only two five-star facilities by the 2011 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Rankings, Toyota Soccer Center has helped FC Dallas sign an MLS-record 25 Homegrown players in 10 years. In May 2017, Hunt, along with his brother Clark, ESPN and the City of Frisco officially announced that the newly-relocated Frisco Bowl (previously known as Miami Beach Bowl) would call Toyota Stadium home starting on December 20, 2017 at Toyota Stadium. Louisiana Tech became the first Frisco Bowl Champions after beating SMU 51-10. Outside of his responsibilities with FC Dallas, Hunt is involved in the Hunt family’s long-standing interest in the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs. During the 2010 season, Hunt assisted in the renovation of Arrowhead Stadium. In 2016, Hunt and Robert Casterline loaned their multi-million dollar football card collection to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH. Considered by many the most valued collection of football trading cards in the world, the collection includes rare complete sets, important rookie cards as well as informational displays which tell the story of American football and the hobby of card collecting. Hunt began his business career as Vice President of New Business Development for Gemini Voice Solutions in New York City, a provider of voice-over internet protocol for home-to-home calling in the United States. Hunt was born on Nov. 21, 1976 in Dallas, Texas and graduated from the St. Mark’s School of Texas in 1996. Hunt and his wife, Toni, have two daughters, Darlington and Tennyson. The Hunts are involved in the Texas Women’s Foundation as well as a variety of other philanthropic organizations throughout Dallas/Fort Worth. Gina Miller Bio Gina Miller serves as FC Dallas’ Vice President of Media and Communications, overseeing communications and public relations strategy as well as the MLS club’s digital and social media. FC Dallas experienced a 41% year-over-year growth across all social media platforms in her first year spearheading the club’s content. She produces and hosts team broadcasts and serves as the spokesperson for FC Dallas and Toyota Stadium. Miller is a familiar face in the Dallas/Fort Worth market and beyond. She is an award-winning sportscaster who worked at KCBS/KCAL in Los Angeles, at CBS11/TXA21, NBC5-TV and WFAA-TV in DFW, WBIR-TV in Knoxville and KUAM-TV in Guam. She also worked for the Dallas Cowboys as a member of the team’s award-winning television department from 1999-2002. While at CBS11/TXA21, Miller hosted the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars and Texas Rangers pre-and post-game shows. She has also worked as a media consultant at world-renowned research and consulting firm, SmithGeiger. While there she advised local TV newsrooms on news/weather strategy, digital and social media, marketing and on-air talent coaching.
