GARY F. KENNEDY
Gary F. Kennedy served as the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of American Airlines and AMR Corporation from January, 2003 until his retirement in January, 2014. As General Counsel, Kennedy guided the airline through two of the most high profile events in the company’s history - the 2011 bankruptcy filing and the 2013 merger with US Airways. Mr. Kennedy directed the efforts to obtain government approval of the merger, including the defense of lawsuits filed by the Department of Justice and multiple state attorneys general, and was called upon to testify before Congress to garner support for the merger. As General Counsel, Kennedy managed the Company's legal affairs worldwide, including complex commercial litigation, employment litigation, labor union disputes and corporate transactions. Kennedy has extensive experience dealing with US regulatory agencies, including the Department of Justice and the Department of Transportation. Prior to his role as General Counsel, Kennedy served as Vice President of the real estate and construction department at American. With billions of dollars at stake, Kennedy was the chief strategist for the lease and construction of the company's airport facilities, maintenance facilities and office buildings worldwide. Mr. Kennedy serves as a member of the Board of PIMCO Funds, one of the country’s largest open-end fund complexes. In that capacity, he serves as cochair of the valuation oversight committee and is a member of the audit and governance committees. Mr. Kennedy also serves on the Board of the Marconi Group, a patent management company located in Dallas, Texas. He also served as an adjunct professor of law at Southern Methodist University and Texas Wesleyan University. Mr. Kennedy is the author of a new book, published in February 2018, titled Twelve Years of Turbulence, the Inside Story of American Airlines’ Battle for Survival. Before arriving at American, Kennedy was a litigator and bankruptcy attorney for several years in Salt Lake City. He is a 1977 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Utah and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah School of Law in 1980. Kennedy and his wife have four children and live in Dallas, Texas.

DR JOE MAY CHANCELLOR , DALLAS COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT Selected as the seventh chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District, Dr. Joe May assumed his duties leading the seven-college, 165,000-student system in late February 2014. Throughout his career, May has expanded opportunities for students who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree by starting at a community college. At the same time, he brings a strong commitment to improving the Dallas economy by helping to grow middle-class jobs. He is known both nationally and internationally as a result of his relentless advocacy for the role of community colleges in solving today’s most challenging social issues. As the first member of his family to attend college, the chancellor realized the profound impact that higher education had not only on his life but also on society in general. This background inspired May to help start and then become the founding president of Rebuilding America’s Middle Class (RAMC), a national consortium of community colleges dedicated to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to pursue the “American dream.” Dallas. A strong advocate for adult education, May guided the effort for DCCCD to assume responsibility for providing adult education to North Texas. Changing the name to WorkReadyU acknowledges the reality that people don’t just want an education — they want a job. This adult literacy program now serves more than 8,000 adult learners annually. May previously served as president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, president for the Colorado Community College System and president of Pueblo Community College before he accepted the system’s CEO position. Respected throughout the world, May has served as a Fulbright Scholar to Russia and has provided consulting services to new community college initiatives in Japan, the United Kingdom, Russia and Saudi Arabia. He also served in leadership roles at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas; Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, and Vernon College in Vernon, Texas. Dr. May started his higher education career in 1978 as an adjunct faculty member at Cedar Valley College in the Dallas County Community College District. A native of East Texas, Dr. May earned his doctorate in education from Texas A&M-Commerce. He also holds master of education and bachelor of science degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. |

Sylvia Gann Mahoney, member, Rotary Club of Fort Worth, is the Rotary co-chair, Marking the Great Western Trail from Mexico to Canada with 250 seven-foot white cement posts, the last and longest post-Civil War Texas cattle trail. The Rotarian magazine won the Gold Award for the Dec. 2017 cover and article, "On the Trail of History: Rotarians from three countries resurrect the forgotten Great Western Trail." Sylvia's book, Finding the Great Western Trail, won the 2016 Best Book of the Year awarded by West Texas Historical Association and the 2016 Will Rogers Medallion Award.

Jennifer Sanders, Executive Director and Co-Founder, Dallas Innovation Alliance Jennifer Sanders is Cofounder and Executive Director of the Dallas Innovation Alliance (DIA) a nonprofit public-private partnership dedicated to the design and execution of a smart cities plan for Dallas. She brings to the role expertise across a broad array of industries, including energy, technology, economic development and finance. DIA’s goal is to elevate Dallas as a city that is not only prepared for – but a driving force in shaping – the future of cities, and provide opportunities for prosperity for its citizens. While at the DIA, she has collated a network of 30 member organizations, and works with over 20 departments within the City of Dallas and Dallas County to accomplish an aligned smart city strategy, beginning with the implementation of the Smart Cities Living Lab [phase I], in the West End District in downtown Dallas. This Living Lab incorporates eight smart city projects into a compressed corridor, and the resulting platform will pull in startups, entrepreneurs and university researchers to develop and test additional products and solutions. The Living Lab launched in March of 2017. She is actively involved with numerous civic organizations in Dallas, and has served as the President of the Mayor’s Star Council, on the Board of the Suicide & Crisis Center of North Texas, an Ambassador for the Dallas Entrepreneur Center (DEC) and the Advisory Board for Dallas-based retail and lifestyle startup, Edition Collective, among others. She has been named to Dallas Business Journal’s 40 Under 40, Dallas Business Journal’s Top Women in Technology, the Dallas 500 and Tech Week 100. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Psychology with a minor concentration in Economics.

Prior to joining the State Fair, Mitchell spent nearly a decade with the Dallas Mavericks marketing team, serving as the organization’s sales manager for season and group tickets. Raised in Dallas, Mitchell graduated from Southern Methodist University with a double-major in Finance and TV & Radio. He served as captain of the SMU Mustangs football team in 1989 and was chosen as one of only 11 National Football Foundation Scholar Athletes in the country, that same year. He is the former president of the SMU Letterman’s Association and is an active member of the Dallas Salesmanship Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming children’s futures by serving at-risk families in the Greater Dallas area. Richard MilesFrom Wrongful Incarceration to Nonprofit CEOKind and charismatic, Richard Miles is the Founder of Miles of Freedom, a nonprofit dedicated to helping people transition to life after prison. Richard founded the organization after spending 15 years in prison himself, for a crime he did not commit. His resilience to stay positive, hopeful, and maintain a servant leader attitude is remarkable, and he credit’s “God’s grace and Centurion Ministries [that his] innocence was recognized.” Richard grew up in Dallas, went to Skyline High School, his father was a minister, and they had a lot of trust in the system. He grew up believing the police help you, so when we asked, “when people hear your story, what do you think surprises them the most?” Richard said “That people are actually innocent, that police officers can get it wrong and prosecutors can sometime be overzealous.” Given that Richard was incarcerated when he was 19 years old, he finished his Associate’s Degree in prison and graduated from Trinity Community College. He says, “Learning gave me freedom.” Instead of becoming hardened by his past, Richard pours his energy into creating an organization that helping hundreds of people each year. Miles of Freedom has a 3 month Job Readiness Workshop that is helping ex-prisoners get back on their feet – with training in financial literacy, resume building, and interviewing. They also assist with employment search and placement after completion of the workshop. How can you help Miles of Freedom? Richard and his team has developed a social enterprise, a lawn care business called “Yard Services by Miles of Freedom” that helps fund the organization and give people in the program sometimes their first job out of prison. If you need help with your yard, they do cutting, edging, hedges, anything that deals with land maintenance. They can even help you start a garden. They have a fun motto of “Have grass? Ronald Kirk (born June 27, 1954) is an American lawyer, politician and member of the Democratic Party. Born in Austin, Texas, Kirk is a graduate of Austin's John H. Reagan High School, Austin College, and the University of Texas School of Law. From 1994 to 1995, Kirk worked as the Secretary of State of Texas, until he was elected as the Mayor of Dallas, where he served from 1995 to 2002 and was the first African-American to hold either of those positions. He ran for the United States Senate in 2002, but was defeated by Republican opponent John Cornyn. After his defeat, Kirk worked as a partner at the Houston-based law firm Vinson & Elkins and worked as a lobbyist for Energy Future Holdings and Merrill Lynch.[1][2] Kirk was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as U.S. Trade Representative and on March 18, 2009, and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in a 92–5 confirmation vote.[3] On January 22, 2013, Kirk announced that he would be stepping down as U.S. Trade Rep. |

Working with a partner, help spread the word of the goals of PSN and convincing residents in an area filled with refugees and immigrants that it is safe to come forward to law enforcement when they witness violence. This will be achieved by placing a door hanger on designated residences in PSN area. Volunteers would be expected to place door hangers on residences for approximately 2.5 hours. On a daily basis, Danielle regularly communicates and interfaces with key management personnel and human resources representatives to provide insight and legal advice to those individuals on a range of personnel issues. Understanding the interplay between employment issues and peer review policies and procedures affecting the Firm's health care clients, Danielle also devotes a portion of her practice to advising, counselling, and representing healthcare management in nursing and physician peer review proceedings. “I Like Me!” was written by Topeka Rotarian Vern Wheeler in an effort to develop self-concept and a joy of reading in kindergartners. He had read to young students who were disinterested in the reading materials because they couldn't relate to the people in the stories, so he wrote a book that featured the student as the main character.
The story of each hard-cover, full color "I Like Me!” book contains multiple mentions of the name of the kindergartner plus their two best friends, teacher, school and city.
In studies conducted over a three year period by Dr. Don DeMoulin, University of Tennessee-Martin, the use of "I Like Me!” improved comprehension and recall in kindergartners by an average of 46.8% over children using non-personalized readers. The books also have a positive impact on students’ self-concept. As Susan Goren, Executive Director of the National Association of School Psychologists, says, the book is read over and over by students because they themselves are the subject of the material.
In Dallas, The Rotary Club of Dallas supplies over 1,000 of these books to Dallas Independent School District kindergartens and members take a day each April to visit several participating schools to deliver the books and read to the children. The moment when the child realizes the book is about them is a true gift to experience.

In a quest to gain the knowledge of manufacturing in the QSR segment of the industry, he joined Boston Market as director of new product development and concept evolution. Roger’s background in both operations, culinary and manufacturing affords him a global perspective that encapsulates the total restaurant dining experience and its many facets. He has been featured in national magazines like Food and Wine and Fitness magazine where he was selected as one of the 16 Healthiest Chefs in America. At Ruth’s Chris during his tenure the group earned the Platinum Choice in Chains Awards, Rob Reports best restaurant in America, and Consumer Reports best restaurants in America. In 2005, when Hurricane Katrina destroyed the City of New Orleans and Ruth’s Chris moved their headquarters to Tampa, chef Kaplan moved to Dallas. 15 Years ago, Kaplan’s entrepreneurial spirit guided him to depart the corporate world to found RK iNNOVATION; A collaborative consulting practice that allow him to fuel his passion for creating Zagat Rated, profitable concept creation, R&D, menu development, manufacturing, operations, developing emerging growth brands and licensing utilizing all of his experience. State Rep. Eric Johnson (D) and Dallas City Councilman Scott Griggs are running in a June 8 nonpartisan runoff election for mayor of Dallas, Texas. This is an open-seat race; incumbent Mike Rawlings (D), in office since 2011, was prevented by term limits from seeking re-election. Both candidates discuss their records in elected office as evidence of their fitness to serve as mayor. Johnson says he has a record of bringing people together across party and rural/urban divides in the state House, where he's served since 2010, and that he is the candidate to mend divisiveness on the Dallas City Council. He says he has worked to increase affordable housing and for full-day pre-K during his time as a state legislator. Griggs says his record on the city council, where he first began serving in 2011, attests to his ability to accomplish things on the council. He lists among his accomplishments his role in passing salary increases for police officers and economic growth in the North Oak Cliff neighborhood he represents. Economic development has emerged as a policy area of difference between the candidates. Griggs said, "For far too long in Dallas, we’ve focused too long on the postcard, building the fancy bridges, building the convention center hotel, a golf course, a horse park. We need to get back to the basics." Johnson said of development, "I don’t think it’s as simple as saying everything that’s not a pothole is a vanity project or everything that’s not fixing a street is a boondoggle. We need to have a certain amount of big dreams and big ideas but we also need to make sure the city works for its residents." Griggs has been endorsed by several unions, including the Dallas Fire Fighters Association, as well as environmental and LGBT groups. Johnson's endorsers include NAACP President Arthur Fleming and a number of local business leaders, including Republicans, who signed a letter in February asking people to donate to his campaign. For coverage of the May 4 general election, click here. Dallas is the ninth-largest city in the U.S. with a population of 1.3 million. Johnson represents District 100 in the state House, which covers portions of Dallas and Mesquite and had about 161,000 residents as of the 2010 census. Griggs represents District 1 on the city council, which had around 84,000 residents as of 2011. Dallas uses a council-manager system. In this form of municipal government, the mayor serves on the city council—the city's primary legislative body. The council and mayor appoint a chief executive called a city manager to oversee day-to-day municipal operations and implement the council's policy and legislative initiatives. The mayor of Dallas appoints city council committee members and chairs, determines what policy-related agenda items will be considered by the council, and makes policy and budget recommendations. The mayor does not have veto power. |
