Camp Enterprise is an intensive three-day seminar on business for a select group of high-school seniors.  Each September, Dallas area students interact with business executives, politicians, union leaders and government representatives. Participating young men and women explore fundamental challenges, opportunities and obligations of the free enterprise system.  Camp Enterprise program attracts guest speakers that are high-ranking executives from large businesses as well as small business owners from our area as well as motivational speakers.  Topics for discussion are current and may include management and employee relations, government regulations, starting your own business, major problems facing the free enterprise system, minimum wage laws and the approaches of business andgovernment to social problems.

Camp Enterprise is held in a true camp setting designed to develop friendships and the free exchange of ideas.  The students are segmented into teams and develop a business logo and presentation, and work as a team, and allowing each team member to lead an effort, throughout the duration of the camp.   The program also provides each team the opportunity and responsibility of management decision-making via our Camp Enterprise computer game. They begin to learn about the elasticity of our economy; supply vs. demand, inventory levels, publicity, forecasting, budgeting, as well as setting product pricing.  The teams are provided with tips for each round of the game and may be provided with an economy downturn.  From this they learn that every facet of the business is impacted, price, budgets, forecasts, employee layoffs.  The game provides students with the opportunity in a fun game environment to learn about the economy and our free enterprise system.

The Rotary Club of Dallas raises the necessary funds to run this camp such as meals, snacks, drinks, and tools for teaming efforts; speakers and Saturday night swim party.  DISD partners with The Rotary Club of Dallas in many ways.  DISD Counselors assist in identifying students for selection.  The Rotary Club of Dallas however, reviews all applications manages the selection process.  Each student selected is a top student academically, as well as involvement in extra-curricular activities.  DISD also provides busses to and from the camp, as well as an overnight DISD police officer for security.

This project takes over 100 Rotarians who volunteer throughout the weekend performing a variety of tasks.  The Rotary Club of Dallas considers this a scholarship and it is beneficial to students’ resumes.  We trust that you will find this to be beneficial, education, fun and a growth experience.
